As you are already know that the PS vita is the successor of PSP, so it is definitely better than the PSP but the question is that how much it will be better than the PSP?
* PSP has display at 480 × 272 pixels with 16.8 million colors, 16:9 widescreen TFT LCD, 3.8 in (97 mm) (PSP GO), 4.3 in (110 mm) (All other models) while PS vita has a display at 480 x 960 pixels with 16.8 million colors, 5" widescreen oled with capacitive multi-touch. Great improvement.
* PS vita has a rear multi-touch pad which PSP lack, front facing and rear facing camera, a gps and the dual analog stick too which also PSP lacks.
* PS vita feature augmented reality gaming which PSP does't offer, skype support too, full PSN integrating and cross-play with ps3 for multiplayer. vita is a great upgrade over PSP.
* PSP has a slow MIPS R4000-based; clocked from 1 to 333 MHz while PS vita offers quad core cortex a9 processor running at 800hhz. More than 10x processing power compared to PSP.
* PSP is low on memory only offer 32 MB (PSP-1000); 64 MB (2000, 3000 and PSP Go) while PS vita has a 512mb ddr2 ram. Huge room for more ram demanding game.
* PS vita features a quad core SGX543MP4 (four cores) 134M polygons/s, fill rates in excess of 4Gpixels/sec @200 MHz while PSP GPU 1-166 MHz (set at 111 MHz by default) @ 1.2 V Up to 33 Million Polygon/s (with Transform and Lighting). This time too PS vita has a bump improvement over graphics and processing performance over PSP.
* PSP uses UMD as primary media while the VITA uses next generation NVG card.
* PS vita features LiveArea interface full touch controlled an support adobe flash for browser.
* Vita has a 3g option too and bluetooth 2.1+ EDR.
So finally PS vita is the great upgrade from your PSP.
